DESCRIPTION:The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) presents its 2021 Living Lands Series! Living Lands is the LGLC’s weekly presentation series that takes an exclusive and up-close look at the people\, history and wildlife of the lands of Lake George and the Adirondacks\, past and present. VIRTUAL – all presentations will be recorded; recording links will go live at 5:30 PM on the date of the presentation. \n——-\nScience Director of the Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute\, Michale Glennon will discuss some of the primary ways in which the public and private land use structure and management decisions in the Adirondacks affect the characteristics of wildlife communities\, drawing on two decades of research. \nAt the Adirondack Watershed Institute (AWI)\, Michale works to support and help shape the scientific research program\, provide high quality research opportunities for students\, and distribute and champion AWI’s work in order to enhance the use of science in the management and stewardship of the natural resources of the Adirondack Park. She is interested in the effects of land use management on wildlife populations in the Adirondacks and is engaged in research ranging from issues of residential development to recreation ecology to climate change. Michale is an ecologist and previously spent 15 years as the Director of Science for the Adirondack Program of the Wildlife Conservation Society.

A weaving of stories\, songs\, and readings celebrate her and her love for the outdoors. Eileen Egan Mack and Dan Berggren bring Jeanne’s neighbors of yesterday back to life\, giving voice to the people and places that might otherwise be forgotten. Be prepared for an entertaining journey back in time\, with twists and turns to enjoy. \nJeanne Robert Foster (née Julia Elizabeth Oliver) a native of the southern Adirondacks\, was the oldest of four children of a lumberjack and a school teacher\, Frank and Lizzie Oliver. She gleaned all she could from her teachers in the three mountain counties she called home. She traveled the world\, but she told “those who will carry me when my eyes close for the final time\, to fold me tenderly in some wild mountain valley where the wind will sing through the pines-a requiem over me.” By the end of her life\, she had been a famous beauty\, a poet\, a journalist and a social reformer. Much later in life she recalled\, “I left the mountains in body\, but never in spirit.”
